Elvira Oeberg took all the glory in the women’s sprint at the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon 2023 Pokljuka. France’s Julia Simon finished second (+6.9), while Italy’s Dorothea Wierer, claimed third place (+18.7).
Oeberg started the race strong. After the first clean shooting, she was already 17 seconds ahead of her competitors. She dropped all the targets also in the standing shooting and continued to be among the fastest on the track to secure her first sprintwin of the season. “I am super happy! I did not feel the best in skiing today, maybe due to the high altitude. But I am extremely happy to keep it together in the shooting range.”
Simon also did not miss a single but was slightly slower on the skis comparing to Swedish biathlete. Wierer completed the podium, mostly, thanks to her impeccable shooting. The 32-year-old had only the 14th-course time, however, it was enough for the third place.
Paulina Batovska Fialkova finished fourth with one penalty loop (+26.5), Marketa Davidova was fifth (+28.7) and Hochfilzen’s winner, Denise Herrmann-Wick, took sixth place (+36.3).
