First OPA Biathlon Alpen Cup relocated to Pokljuka

After a year without any major international Junior Biathlon competitions, the OPA Biathlon Alpen Cup is back in full swing. Unfortunately, the very first Cup was postponed, with the originally planned in Oberwiesenthal, Germany, but were unable to host it due to covid-19 restrictions, so OC Pokljuka took over. The competition took place between 16 and 19 December 2021.

The young biathletes gathered at Rudno Polje after about nine months since the last Alpen Cup of the season was held in Pokljuka last year.

This competitions were also first ones after a minor renovation of venue, e.g. Pokljuka stadium entrance has been modernised to allow all competitors to arrive at the shooting range on an equal footing.

Two days of competition, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December, featured sprint events and the competitors were divided into four different categories. In total, more than 300 competitors from 4 countries were registered: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. The competition also counted for the German Cup, so there were almost 200 German biathletes in Pokljuka. The success was also celebrated by Slovenes, including representatives of eight Slovenian clubs: SK Ihan, SK Brdo, SK Loška Dolina, SD Bohinj, ŠD Gorje, TSK Logatec, SK Cerknica and TSK Triglav Kranj.
