Biathletes will start the new World Cup season in Pokljuka

All the competitions were a challenge because we tried to ensure fair conditions for all the competitors. And with the heavy snowfall that was not an easy task. We are glad that Pokljuka will open the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon 2018/2019 season. 6 competition days out of 9 days with 8 races means that this will be a nice test for the 2021 IBU World Championships. That is why we will focus on the logistics and traffic solutions of the event. The other main challenge is the weather. We are relying on the cooperation of the nature and most of all on the experience of the competition comittee that the snow surfice will be prepared in the best possible way, said Tomaž Šušteršič, Secretary general of the OC Pokljuka.

Matej Kordež, chief of competition, said today: We have done everything we could that the early schedule of the races would not cause any problems. We have had a lot of snow in the last winter. We have managed to store around 25.000 cubic meters of snow. This will be the base layer for the preparation of the tracks and the biathlon stadium. But low temperatures will still be key. And we can not do more. At the moment we are preparing and restoring the equipment, and fulfilling the teams that will keep the competition running smoothly. At the moment everything is on time according to the plans and work schedules that have been made in spring.
