Two days ahead of the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Pokljuka it is clear two big names will be missing out the first World Cup Biathlon race in the year 2023. Both Hanna Oeberg and Franziska Preuss came down with a cold and will skip the races over four competition days in Slovenia.
Two times Olympic Champion Hanna Oeberg from Sweden announced the news on her Instagram profile, saying she fell ill just before Christmas and does not feel fit enough to face this competition in Pokljuka, as she lost important training time and strength. However, she hopes to be back on the start line in Ruhpolding.
Similarly, German biathlete Franziska Preuss, the 2022 Olympic Games bronze medallist, also posted on her Instagram a photo, holding a tea cup, explaining she is sick. Runny nose, fever, cough and sore throat are stopping her from competing this weekend in Pokljuka. 28-year-old athlete remains positive: “But as the saying goes, New year, New Happiness.”
On the other hand, Vanessa Hinz will make a debut in the German team in this season’s BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon race series here in Slovenia.
