Green light for Pokljuka BMW IBU World cup

Pokljuka received official confirmation from the International Biathlon Federation that the venue at Rudno Polje is ready to host the 4th BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup in 2022/23. After seeing the report of the Pokljuka Organising Committee on the current situation, IBU Competition Director Borut Nunar gave the organizers the green light to hold the races between 5 and 8 January 2023.

Mr. Nunar was satisfied with the work done on the track and other key facilities needed for the biathlon events. He also sees no cause for alarm despite the slightly reduced natural snow cover on the track, as the organizers have brought in large amounts of artificial snow in recent days. Minor works on the venue are still in progress and will be completed a few days before the start of the biathlon holiday in Pokljuka.

Tim Farčnik, Secretary General of the Pokljuka Biathlon Association, is also pleased with the decision of the International Biathlon Federation: “I am delighted that after the success of the World Biathlon Championships in 2021, we will be able to welcome the best Biathlon athletes in the world back to Pokljuka for the first race in 2023, when the races will take place between 5 and 8 January. Pokljuka is traditionally well prepared, although we have slightly less natural snow than in previous years. With good work they have managed to provide excellent conditions and today the International Biathlon Federation gave us the green light to hold the competitions in Pokljuka.

We are all looking forward to the start of the competitions in Pokljuka, especially as our biathletes are achieving encouraging results, and we want them to crown it in Pokljuka. It should not be forgotten that the first race in Pokljuka will be in the women’s sprint, when we will be able to welcome the new Slovenian national athlete Anamaria Lampič, who has delighted us with some good results this season. We hope that it will be in Pokljuka that she will achieve her best result.

I would like to invite all Slovenians to join us on Pokljuka as once again it will be an event to remember”
