The long awaited construction of the necessary Pokljuka Sports Centre at Rudno polje was completed in the fall of 2009. The initiative for a new sports center was given by the sports professionals and tourism workers at the Pokljuka Organizing Committee and the Ski Association of Slovenia. After many years of planning, the project was beginning to take shape in 2006, until finally our wish of many years began to materialize when the project was granted EU funding.
A harsh winter and plenty of snow left construction workers with many difficulties, which is why the opening of Pokljuka Sports Centre was prolonged until October 2009. Nevertheless, the surrounding area around the center and the stadium were ready for the first public events by the end of the summer. The construction of the main building, Hotel Center, was completed in October 2009, and has now already welcomed its first guests. With the sports center and the hotel, Pokljuka has gained the much needed infrastructure for the development of sports and tourism both in the summer and in the winter season. |

As a whole, the project is an important investment aimed at boosting local tourism and a vital infrastructural improvement, allowing recreational sports at Pokljuka to grow along the planned lines. The investment includes: |
|
- a multi-purpose central facility - Hotel Center*** with 62 beds, an a la carte restaurant, fitness facilities, a sauna, two multimedia lecture rooms, and more,
- modern IBU and FIS homologized cross-country skiing and biathlon tracks,
- rental services for sports equipment,
- a track for roller skiing and rollerblading/cross country and running tracks with partial illumination,
- a biathlon shooting range with 30 electronic targets (HORA system),
- a stadium with tiers of seats for spectators,
- an artificial snow system,
- other recreational grounds (more than 5000 sq meters),
- new parking grounds and municipal infrastructure,
- wooden cottage and bar Jurček (Porcino).
Pokljuka Sports Centre was constructed entirely in accordance with the strict environmental protection requirements; we are aware that the Center lies within the Triglav National Park and has to be as closely attuned to nature as possible. |
