Pokljuka - Rudno polje - 20.12.2009 The best result in the World Cup for Bauer

Pokljuka's heroes are known. Teja Gregorin and Klemen Bauer completed the year 2009 with their best results in this season so far. After Teja's fifth place Klemen also exploded in pursuit race and in finish enjoyed his deserved 7th place: »I showed that I can do what I have already shown in trainings. I think everything will be much easier now.«
Bauer missed three targets in the shooting range. With the help of loud supporters he ran even faster than usual. That was enough for his best result in his World Cup career: »This was that addition to my results that I was waiting for the whole season. I'm very happy that I managed to do this at the home venue.«

Bauer's success was complemented by Janez Marič and Vasja Rupnik. Marič covered first ten targets, but was less accurate in the standing position. He jumped 23 places up in the results list and finally won 35th place.

Rupnik finished just behind Marič, he was 36th and for the second time in his career among points winners: »Unfortunately, due to worse shooting I couldn't finish higher, but I'm very satisfied. I will take a few days off, and after that I will enjoy in next World Cup races.«

Slovenian head coach Uroš Velepec was more than satisfied with his boys: »I could easily get used to this success. Klemen showed what he can do and the result is here. Too bad for the other two. They would be close to 25 if they shot a little better. The competition was really close today, the delays were really small. Janez has shown that he is in a very good form. Despite worse shooting he made a huge jump. Vasja is also very capable; he just has to show that in the race more often. I hope that the confidence he gained in the last days, will help him in the next races.«

We saw a remarkable outcome on the top. The best three from sprint lost their places on the podium due to worse shooting, however a Russian competitor enjoyed his win in the finish area. Evgeniy Ustyugov won the first race in his career: »Today the race was more regular, because there was no wind. I especially focused on the last shooting. I managed to cover all five targets and I'm really satisfied with my race.«

Estonian Roland Lessing jumped to the second place. He was perfect in shooting and achieved his best career result. Lessing is the first Estonian biathlete to stand on the podium in World Cup: »The only thing I wanted today was good shooting. Everything is possible in biathlon. And I made it in Pokljuka. This is certainly my lucky venue.«

After Sumann and Landertinger Simon Eder was the next to continue great performance from the Austrian team. He finished in third place: “For the second season in a row our team is performing very well. Today I was the one to finish the highest. Conditions were fairer, there was no wind and I could shoot fast.”

Biathletes will have some holidays in the next days. They will continue with the World Cup in Oberhof, which will host the races from 6th to 10th of January 2010.
