Pokljuka, 4th December 2016 - Biathlon family bids farewell to Oestersund, first stop of the 2016-17 BMW IBU World Cup season, and is heading towards Pokljuka, Slovenia, where six races are to take place next weekend, three in men’s as well as women’s category. Five days ahead of the first two races the atmosphere at Rudno polje is very lively. But, the most important thing is that the snow is already on the tracks and the preparations are reaching its final stage.
A true winter fairy tale is at the moment at Pokljuka. The organizers took advantage of the low temperatures and sunny weather to prepare the venue well. According to them the competition could start as early as tomorrow already. “If we take a look only at the tracks, they are done and ready, and the competition could start. Nevertheless, we still have minor work to do at the stadium and shooting range that is to be completed in the coming days,” Matej Kordež, Chief of Competition, revealed the current conditions. As to the tracks he added: “Current condition of the tracks is very good, they are wide enough with sufficient snow. Even on the critical parts where we experienced some difficulties in the past that had to be solved as the event went along. We sincerely hope that this time everything will go well. We also have enough additional snow at hand in case of warmer weather in the coming days.”
First athletes will be able to train at the venue already tomorrow from 12h till 15h. But, only cross country skiing will be possible as the shooting range is not fully ready yet. All who would like to see the world’s best biathletes compete in the coming weekend are kindly invited to Pokljuka. The tickets are still available.
