Pokljuka, 9th November 2016 - We are slowly heading from autumn to winter and Pokljuka is intensively preparing for the IBU World Cup Biathlon. This year the world’s best ski hunters are coming to Pokljuka earlier than usual. The first official training is schedualed at the 8th of December. The next day will the 21st edition of the World Cup Biathlon begin with both sprint races. On Saturday pursuits will take place and on Sunday both relays.
“The preparations for the BMW IBU World Cup in biathlon on Pokljuka are in full swing for some time now. At the moment we are waiting for lower temperatures, so we can start the artificial snow production, because in the last weekend we only had a few centimeters of natural snow. The biathletes will arrive in Slovenia after the competitions in Östersund. That is why this year the World Cup will be a three-day event with six races as usual. 33 teams have applied for the competitions in Pokljuka. In the beginning of the week the logistics committee had a meeting, next week the session of the organizing committee will take place, the competition committee is preparing the individual areas of competition. In the second part of November we will start building the temporary infrastructure and more intensely advertise the event, especially in Slovenia, since it has so far been our focus on attracting spectators from abroad. The response has been very good and we expect an increase in the number of visitors from Central European countries. So far everything is going according to plan, we are only waiting for the nature to cooperate with us” said the OC Secratary General Tomaž Šušteršič.
Besides the interesting biathlon battles, we are also preparing the accompanying program with famous Slovene musicians, dance groups and animation for spectators. The tickets are already available for the price of 15 and 20 Euros at the Petrol gas stations and other usual Eventim sale points. Shuttle buses from Bled and Bohinj to Pokljuka and back is included in ticket price.
