Pokljuka, 1st December - In the past days Winter returned to Pokljuka at last. The temperatures fell deeply under the freezing point thus creating perfect conditions for the BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup venue preparations. A week ahead of the Thursday’s official trainings there is no doubt left whether the competition is to take place. The organizers have also already informed the IBU representatives that Pokljuka is ready to stage the BMW IBU World Cup competitions this season.
Low temperatures in the last days are enabling the organizers of the races at Pokljuka to prepare the venue. They are covering the tracks with ready-made snow since Tuesday. More than 10,000 cubic meters of the artificial snow was piled up at the stadium and approximately the same amount deposited from last winter. It’s time to spread out the snow throughout the competition venue. “Today it’s the third day that we are laying out the snow. For the first time we have decided to do this with two teams, one is working at the storage place with the last winter’s snow and the other at the stadium where the snow was made in the past days. Each loader at the deposit site has its own tractors to transport the snow with a small loader at the tracks. In this way the work is being done without any disruptions,” Matej Kordež, Chief of Competition, described the venue preparations. He plans to have the courses ready till Saturday: ”The tracks will be ready till the end of the week but will remain closed till the arrival of the first biathletes and first trainings.” Around 30 people is working at the tracks at the moment, but the number of workers will increase in the coming days.
The interest in the biathlon weekend at Pokljuka is very high not only among the visiting fans but also among Slovenian biathlon supporters. “We have sold more than 500 multi-day VIP packages. The interest is also growing for the other tickets which are still available. They can be bought at all sales points managed by Eventim as well as at the Petrol gas stations,” said Tomaž Šušteršič, Secretary General of the Pokljuka Organizing Committee, and continued: “All those who will purchase the pre-sale tickets will be entitled to free-of-charge transportation to Pokljuka from Bled.”
Biathlon week at Pokljuka is to start with official trainings on Thursday followed by Sprint competitions on Friday, Pursuits on Saturday, and end with Relay races on Sunday.
