Pokljuka 17th November 2016 - This is the main message of the organizers of the IBU World Cup Biathlon in Pokljuka who met today at the OC meeting. In the past few nights the temperatures at Rudno polje dropped to – 10 degrees Celsius and the staff of the Competition Committee managed to prepare enough snow for the event, which will take place between 8 and 11 of December 2016.
At the meeting, which was led this time by Andreja Katič, Minister of Defence and President of the Organizing Committee Pokljuka, the contract of cooperation at the competition between Ministry of Defence and the Ski Association of Slovenia was signed. The Minister said after signing the contract that she is pleased that the Slovene army is again this year supporting this important project: „This is a top Slovenian and a World project as well. I am also happy to see the support of the municipalities and the locals. Surely we will appreciate the pleasures of sport, I believe that our athletes will achieve excellent results.“ She added that the Ministry of Defence is proud to have top athletes amongst them who achieve great results and also reinforce national pride and conwey the good name of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Slovenia in the world. She hopes for the good weather and a lot of fans at the competition.
President of the Ski Association of Slovenia Enzo Smrekar thanked the Minister on behalf of the Ski Association of Slovenia and the whole Slovene ski family. He pointed out that the assistance of the Ministry of Defence, the Slovenian Armed Forces and all the local communities is of the utmost importance and it would have been difficult to implement without it:“ That is why we are every time very happy, proud and grateful that we have this help and that such events can be organized.“
The Vice-president of the OC Borut Farčnik said: „The activities of the preparation of the venue are going to plan. The conditions were favourable with the temperatures low enough. Next week we will start to prepare the mobile infrastructure and with the transport of the artificial snow across the track. This decision when to start with this is the most difficult. Because we do not want to do it too soon or too late. We will closely monitor the weather forecast. In the next few days we expect not so favourable conditions, but next week it is going to be cold again. We estimate that this year's competiton sudden warming can no longer endanger the competition. We are very happy with the cooperation of the local communities of Bled, Bohinj and Gorje. They each year more intensively support our efforts. We are also sattisfied with the sales of fan packages. The foreign visitors almost completely filled all the capacities in Bled and partly also in Bohinj.
The members of the Organizing Committee reported to the President of the OC about the other areas of the competition and concluded the meeting with the wish to present Pokljuka to the athletes, spectators, media and others in the most hospitable manner, with flawless venue and experienced workers, who are capable to organize the event at the highest possible level.
