Svendsen claims first win this season

Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway won his first race this season in rainy but windless weather. Second was Ondrej Moravec of Czech Republic. Overall World Cup and Pursuit score leader Martin Fourcade finished third. In a very interesting race Svendsen and Fourcade were pursuing each other from start to finish. It was the last shooting that decided the winner of the pursuit competition when Fourcade missed two targets while Hegle with only one rushed towards the finish line.

»It was a very good day. The conditions were very difficult; the track was totally different than on Thursday. It was soft and slow. I am glad that I am in good shape. Martin and I were working together well till the last shooting which decided the race. I am really glad that I am in good shape. My shooting was far from perfect. Now the shooting improved. I hope that I will do even better in Oberhof (next race in the E.ON. IBU World Cup schedule this winter),« said Hegle.
Fourcade then fell back to the third place as it was Ondrej Moravec of Czech Republic who managed to move past the French athlete.

“We were a really great team today. I was too focused on Emil’s last shooting and that is why I missed two targets. Nevertheless, I am glad to be on the podium again,” commented Fourcade.

It was a very good day for Moravec, who went into the race from 8th position, performed well on shooting range missing only one target as well on track, “Gabriela’s win in sprint inspired the whole team. I tried to do the same today. I was very good on shooting range and missed only one target. It was tough on the track, but this is the best race of my career and I am very happy.”

Home favorite Jakov Fak, winner of the Sprint competition on Thursday, finished 22nd. It was not his day on track or on shooting track as he missed six targets. »A lot can be learned from bad performances. My shooting was really poor today. I also had a lot of problems with my gloves which soaked quickly. Nevertheless, I am really happy for Moravec. We trained a lot with the Czech team this season and we are good friends.«
